ABOUT CANBERRA REFEREES

The Canberra and District Rugby League Referees Association provides referees for all Rugby League and League Tag games played in Canberra and surrounding districts.  Our squad has around 50 active referees.

We work closely with the Canberra Region Rugby League, the Canberra Raiders, the NRL and other referees associations to foster Rugby League.

We run training programs to provide the skills, knowledge and support required to become accredited NRL referees.

We participate in the administration of the Country Rugby League and the NSW Rugby League Referees Association.

From February to September we train every Wednesday night from 6.15pm.

All members are welcome to attend General Meetings of the association which are held regularly at the Raiders Belconnen club.

Referees wear the official uniform whilst officiating, purchased from the Association. Other gear is available including whistles, track suits, gear bags, flags, caps, pullover’s, ties and shirts.

Appointments are made weekly and notified to members in our weekly newsletter ‘In Touch’. Most referees normally receive 2-3 game appointments each week. Referees under 18 may only officiate in games involving players at least two years younger.

Our referees come from all walks of life: women and men, school, TAFE and uni students, workers and retirees, current and ex players, coaches, administrators- all those that just love the game.
